Not sure if it's offputting per se, but certainly it gives you pause for thought - and it must be one of the most honest, unvarnished renditions of how it's possible to feel about the idea of having children.
I have a book you should read then that will definitely make you feel much better: The book of happy endings by Elise Valmorbida. She was my creative writing teacher and this is a really sweet collection of short stories, designed to lift your spirits. Give it a go!
